History of the PDGA Champions Cup
/The Disc Golf Champions Cup is a Major event in the sport of Disc Golf. A Major is considered to be the highest level of play in the sport of Disc Golf and there are a selective few every single year. This is the history of the Disc Golf Champions Cup.
Started in 2022 in the inaugural season, the Disc Golf Champions Cup became the 4th major in the tour schedule and the first to occur during the season. The event took place in Appling Georgia at the WR Jackson Disc Golf Course. The same course that is operated by the PDGA (Pro Disc Golf Association) headquarters.
The course is best described as a fully wooded style course meaning distance players that normally have the advantage on ball golf style courses are not favored over players that are good with their specific shot shaping or scrambling abilities when getting off the fairway.

Going into the second year of the PDGA Champions Cup, there was a controversy with players on the Disc Gold pro Tour not able to register for the event as the window was missed. There was a series of time frames that opened the event up to players based on their PDGA rating number.
As a result of the amount of high profile players that were not able to play in the event, the PDGA ran a play in tournament earlier in the week leading up to the event allowing for an additional 8 MPO players, and 4 FPO players.
This also meant that in 2023, the player field for MPO would be 108, and FPO would be 47.
The second annual event is streaming now on the Disc Golf Network after day 1 coverage was available to all on YouTube with next day coverage by Jomez Production and Gatekeeper Media.
